Mopar Techs: Problem with 06 300C, dies after fueling - 10/26/11 07:46 AM

My moms car (06 300C) has a problem that nobody has been able to diagnose and is getting worse.

The problem is after filling the fuel tank, the car will almost immediately die when started back up. Today it died 3 times after filling up. Got down the road a few miles, and it died repeatedly in traffice. The only time the car has died is after filling up, only when the tank is full or almost full. I can pump the throttle and it will start, but idle very rough. Clean it out and it will be ok, may die again, may not. It was pretty nuts in traffice trying to keep it running.

After the fuel gauge goes down a hair the problem goes away till the next time the car is filled.

It has had this problem for going on 2 years, but today it was very bad.

Ive had the car in two shops (one a chrysler dealership) and they can find anything wrong. Apparently it isnt throwing any codes.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance for any help or advice.

Bet on a Fuel filter or pump problem. Had a Buick that did a similar thing and it was the pump. Pressure test pump and make sure your evap system is functioning properly. Try cracking the cap and see if it does it Check engine light should come on

I did some searching and it appears this is a sort of common problem. Most likely a problem in the evap system, either a valve or canister. Valve is servicable, canister is not....new tank if the canister is plugged.

Von there may have been a TSB about that. I left the Dodge dealer in March this year but might be able to get at the service bulletins to check them. I have seen a few problems like this over the years so let me see what I can find out. Ron

Hello! Have seen this. Dealer should know about this problem also. We've found the roll-over valve bad. This is only serviceable by replacing the tank unfortunately. Ck for fuel in the vent hose going to the canister, with a full tank. If so, your gonna have to replace tank. I'm assuming this is the 5.7? Hope this helps! Jeff

My wifes caravan was doing that and they had to replace the tank. Luckily for me it was done under warranty.
