Stock jets are 72 in a 3310, I will say at cruise you should not need more than 74 to cure a lean condition.

Make sure your floats are not too low, that can cause a slight lean condition at cruise. There are also other factors like timing. Are you running vacuum advance? If so, with that combo it is not needed. An initial of 17 or 18 and total of 36 should be a good start.

Re: Holley lean condition - 05/22/08 11:43 PM

Is the car exhibiting any other symptoms of lean other than running hot??????????????

Re: Holley lean condition - 05/23/08 01:27 PM

no vacuum advance, initial timing is 15 total 34, the car screams but the tail pipes were light gray same as the plugs and the center header tubes were glowing. I have since put the 76's in it and it seems to be alot better but I dont know if it could take more or needs more. The car still runs warmer than I think it should.

just my sounds like you need a larger carb. will be alot easier to dial in. whats the rest of your
engine specs? mabey i can get a better idea.

I run a 80508 750 w/ VS on my car with stock jetting (same as 3310)...no problems. Cams are pretty similar and I have a 440+0.60 over. Timing is set about the same with no vacuum advance. Runs about 190 cruising on hot days.

I know this in going to open a can a worms because there are many theories on this but make sure you have a restrictor or a thermostat in there. If you can hold the water in the radiator just a bit longer to cool, it may just make that bit a difference you need.

Re: Holley lean condition - 05/23/08 07:24 PM

I don't think your temperature (which you don't say HOW hot) is Carb related. I too ran a 750 VS Holley on a 440, with the 474/474 280 MP cam, stock jetting, headers, ran fine! (I did play with the secondary springs but that was it)

If your tubes are glowing after fast idle while the hood is up...SO do mine! And this is on a 440 850 Holley DP that is overjetted (84's , 80's are stock)

yah i'll admit that i may of jumped the gun by saying that he's runnin
to small a carb. BUT unless one of the fuel passages is clogged,
or he didn't read his plugs properly, going up that many jet sizes
dictates a larger carb is needed. i HATE inter-tuning
