Stiff Clutch Pedal

Stiff Clutch Pedal - 10/07/11 11:05 AM

It's a centerforce dual friction behind a hemi/hemi 4 speed in an e body. There is no binding and all linkages are lubed. The overcenter spring is long gone. My 51 year old knee is having issues with it and it'd definitely not "performance type shifting" friendly.
Any suggestions/tricks? Happy friday

I replaced the mcleod borg & beck long style clutch in my 70 6 pack hemi 4 speed roadrunner with a centerforce dual friction clutch because I had heard about the light pedal pressure & smooth engagement. I never liked it. It had just as much pedal pressure as the borg & beck long but did'nt release or engage as quick. It took too much pedal to release it at high rpm wide open throttle shifts. I put the borg & beck long back in.

Somethings wrong. My CF has been in for at least 10 years.Had a McCleod 3200 B&B before that.Pressure is definetly a lot different. No problems shifting my 440 at 6700.One of the best clutchs Ive ever run.Rocky

Somethings wrong alright. That's why I posed the question. The Z bar, bushings, fork, throw out bushing are all new, lubed and move freely with no spring pressure on them..... Anyone else got suggestions or is it inherent with the diaghragm style clutches?

Rocky's correct, "there's something wrong". Wrong with the plate. I've got that disc set-up behind my big block. I had the McCleod (sp) before and the Centerforce is much easier. Over center spring gone on mine too. I would think you have a bad plate. Jeff
