340 pre-oiling

340 pre-oiling - 10/07/11 04:42 AM

I have my 340 reassembled and I ran a 1/2 inch drill on the end of a pre-oiling rod. The drill bogged down, the filter is full and oil will come out of the oil pressure sender if it is removed.

The question is should there be oil coming out of the rocker shafts or does the engine need to be running for it to come out. I have a Comp solid lifter cam and Crane adjustable rockers, I bought the car this way. I have the paperwork for the rocker arms and it specifies that the notch that is on each end of the shaft faces down and they do. The shafts are torqued properly and all of the hold down bolts were the same size.

Thanks,

Chuck

Have a helper slowly turn the crank with a 1&1/4" socker/breaker bar as you man the drill and taking the plugs out makes that much easier. There's 2 seperate sweet spots where the rockers get lubed when the cam oiling holes line up. It's intermittent oiling and the rest of the time these is no flow up top like what you are experiencing now
