Turn signals on 69 dart

Turn signals on 69 dart - 08/30/11 02:58 AM

I finally put all the wiring in my 69 Dart, and now when I hit the right turn signal, all the turn signals flash like the hazards are on. Everything else works as it should, and the indicator lights on the dash indicate what should be happening, not what is. I disconnected the plug at the passenger side front signal, and when I hit the right blinker, only the right rear flashes, as it should, everything else is still OK. I plugged in half the of the plug to the front passenger side signal, and then everything works correctly, except no running light on the right front. I had to splice the wiring harness back together since someone had cut it up, but I made sure to match up all the correct wires. Obviously something is crossed, anyone have any ideas where to start looking? I thought maybe the switch, but the problem goes away when you disconnect the front passenger side. I thought maybe I crossed something when I repaired the harness, but should this affect the rear lights, too? Should I just jumper the driver's side running light wiring over to the passenger side and call it a day? I really, really hate electrical problems, since there is no hammer big enough

How are all of your grounds? Mopar lighting seems to be the step-cousin to England's Lucas... Start adding temporary grounds to your lighting circuits one at a time and see if that helps narrow it down. I've owned several trucks, and all of them needed an additional harness from the exterior lights to the neg on the battery to operate efficiently and effectively. You don't need to get that crazy yet. Just make a big jumper to attach to the neg terminal on your battery and touch the other side to your fixture.

If you look carefully at the filaments in the left side bulbs that are blinking with the right side signals when they shouldn't, I predict you will see that it is the actually the running [parking] light filament, which is less bright than the signal filament.

The feed to the right front signal is powering the parking lights all the way around. The percentage bet is that your right front socket or wires to the socket have the running and signal circuits shorted together. A missing ground at the RF housing is a remote possibility, but likely wouldn't be a strong enough feedback to power the park lights all the way around.

Yes, it sounds like, bad socket, bad bulb or wrong bulb in right front.

www.mymopar.com has colors/circuits. If the hazard sw is in the col I'd seperate the ts/brake white plastic pull apart connector in the dangling harness under the st col & ohm it & see if when you raise the TS stalk to signal a R turn if it makes continuity to the wires to the large filaments in all 4 corners the same as when you pull on the hazards & if so it would suggest a TS harness prob under the st wheel. If not in the col still somehow the R turn is feeding the hazard circuit (sounds like a crossed wire/circuit). I'd go over your circuits again starting w the R turn out from the col & locate where it is intersecting the upstream (input) side of the hazard sw if the large filaments in all 4 corners are being lit the same as if you pulled the hazard sw

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll start with the socket and go from there. If all else fails, I'll just get the biggest hammer I can find and ........

I will wager it is a bad turn sig switch

good luck finding it and let us know what the fix was

I'd have thought switch, too, but when I disconnect the front passenger socket, the problem goes away. I'll make sure to post what the problem was (if I find it).

Got home from work, and figured I'd swap the bulb, and then the sockets from side to side if I could narrow the problem down. Tested everything one last time, and now everything works normally, without me doing anything! Typical electrical problem. Thanks for all the tips, I'll use them once the signals start acting wierd again.

Ground. I had the same problem with mine, it turned out to be one of the factory terminal ends on the ground wires.
