Hotchkis - who has the best price...??? - 08/28/11 01:12 PM

70 Challenger, TVS system. I've found Jegs and Summit and both are about the same, and both considerably cheaper than direct from the source. Is there a better way or is this probably going to be the best price around? $2600 for the system on both sites tonight.

Also, can i get this system WITHOUT the subframe connectors? They're worth about $330, also on those sites, and my car already has some really nice ones.

I only have about a $3500-4000 total budget for this car... and it needs a LOT ov stuff. My reasoning for spending such a massive chunk on one aspect is this, i have most ov the rest (brakes, rollers, chassis mods, powertrain, cooling, fuel systems, etc.) just kicking around and can build the rest on the cheap, and i will probably NEVER have a BIG chunk o cash like this to spend on it again. So if i dont get into this now, even if it delays the driving deadline, it will NEVER happen.

I'm building this for a daily driver that i can hopefully someday build into a Viper/Z06 killer...

By the way, i tried to search for this stuff, but the search feature on this site is REALLY screwy.

The search feature on Moparts sucks.

Grab the whole kit then sell the subframe connectors separately.

Hotchkis supports all their dealers and distributors. Buying from Summit or Jegs can get you an excellent price and still gets you the great customer service that Hotchkis is known for. You are also always welcome to call us for a direct sale and inquiries or a recommendation of a dealer near you.

We need to organize a group buy and see what kind of deal we can negotiate.

Yes, i've been aware ov that route. You gotta hand it to Hotchkis though... they know how to market a full and ready system, and give people (me) a very good idea ov exactly what it will do and its capabilities. I'm sold. XV did the same, but the recent online drama has me a bit worried about that route. I was looking at their XV Stage 1 system before this came out.

If it turns out i cant budget for this kit or if i cant make it work in my admittedly screwy application, i'll be going the usual sway-bar kit, fancy shocks, plus T-bars and leafs and hope for the best. If i do the latter though it will be to save some money... and there will be a lot more stock (and 40 year old) suspension pieces in there... which doesn't really fill me with confidence. Went that route once with my 72 Charger and it never quite lived up to its promise...

I just ordered a set of shocks and rear sway bar and hope to see an improvment with the handling on my gtx. I have a hotchkis front bar that I installed when I did the front suspension a few years back and it was a major improvment with the other mods I did. I will say I installed edelbrock shocks at the same time I did my front end and have not been impressed. Here is a shot of my front suspension, nothing fancy but it works!

What shocks did you have before you Edelbrocks?

KYB and thought they would be a major improvement, they were not!

My other option is to get the Hotchkis front & rear sway bar kit, the T-bars and the leaf spring kit... same stuff as in the TVS kit, but without the little stuff. My car is old and all original (not to mention everything is slant-six spec), but its in decent shape. That way i could save $800 for now and still drive the car. There is no way i'm going down the road on slant-six suspension and 24:1 manual box... not even temporarily. I would much rather get the whole kit... but $3000 is a big hit and will kill my $3500 total budget.

I'm going out to the track, Willow Springs, right now. Loaded and ready to go. Will report back with pics....

3800 to 4000 RPM for next 86.6 miles. THEN run on the track.

I got a 5 or so laps on the big track, then a bunch at Streets of Willow. Street is much tighter and you don't get the speeds there. Lot of transitions.

I connected the sway bar back up at Streets and it was an improvement with the much tighter course. I should try the sway bar back at the big track next time out. Real easy to connect/disconnect or choose/adjust from 3 stiffness positions.

Some of the Mopars out there today....

What adjustment aren't you getting with the Hotchkis arms? You can just rearrange the spacers on the cam bolt next to the rod ends to shift the arm back for big time caster numbers.

I don't know if the T/A proportioning valve is special or not. But if you want adjustability look at the Willwood adjustable brake bia valve. Lots of circle track supply places have same thing for pretty cheap.

There's a discount code for 25% off Hotchkis stuff that's posted Mopart General section. That may allow for you to get 4 Bilstein RCD's for $300!

Cool that you're working on a '500. This wing car from today with full Hotchkis TVS sytem should interest you...

I see some pretty flat cornering here. I'd imagine that these systems are designed with stockish Mopars in mind, or for the pro-touring crowd... with their generally heavier (loaded) cars. I imagine the system's capabilities would be just that much better if i could get my E-body down to about 3000lbs...???

Hmmm... drive it next year with this system? or drive it in a month without...???

drive it in a month without! Wheels spinning is better than on jackstands every day!

Yeah... i suppose... It makes sense. Its just that ever since i had my first nice Challenger years and years ago i wanted one with a fully rebuilt and high-performance suspension. That was my dream. Everything else i can scab up... but the possibility ov having such a system on a good car for once in my life... Its kinda hard to pass up. I have ALWAYS had to drive on junk. Even my Charger with its rebuilt poly everything KYB factory HP spring rate suspension never really worked the way it should have.

And the way things work, a year would turn into five... by which time the rest would be toast already.

Hmmm... torn... what to do what to do...

Its goddamn $3600 to my door... Thats brutal.

I would wait until the end of the year and see if Summit has a sale. I purchased mine from Summit when they had a 10% sale on Hotchkis and there was 15% discount code that came out at the same time. Paid about $1850 for the TVS kit for my 70 Challenger.

Noticed they did have a price increase after the first of the year.
I finally drove my car last week for the 1st time with the TVS kit and it handles like a modern car now.

That sounds great... but my money wont last that long. Life gets in the way and if i dont spend it on something useful and concrete now... right now... it'll be pissed away before i know it.

Re: Hotchkis - who has the best price...??? - 09/05/11 04:17 PM

I bought the rear springs, front and rear bars, front sway bar weld on brackets, 1.03" torsion bars from PST, and whatever I needed to rebuild the front suspension...hd tie rod ends and such.

That way, I don't have to tear stuff back apart later. I did not get the upper control arms...not yet, frame connectors, etc...

Made it far more affordable and made a big difference.

I did end up buying the shocks after I had installed everything up to that point. Wish I had gotten that 25% off them!

I bought from Matts Classic Chevelle online/ebay for a fair discount off list on most of it.
