Wheel Vintiques issue

Wheel Vintiques issue - 08/27/11 02:00 AM

Just received wheeles from wheel vintiques. I ordered 15 inch wheel(cop wheel) with a 4.5" backspace. I measured one wheel and backspace is 4 13/16, not 4.5". Has anyone else ever run into this with Wheel Vintique wheeles? Would 5/16 make that much difference? Car is 69 GTX 275-60-15 and 245-60-15 tires. Your thoughts?

Shouldn't make a difference

Personally, I'd want what I ordered and paid for....

How are you measuring them?

I'd mount one up (carefully wo/ scratches) and measure clearance. You will have to estimate tire bulge and diameter. If it is still a good fit, keep them. If the difference causes a problem, return them. Either way, I'd give them a call to make them aware of the problem.

I'd carefully mount the steel wheel on your car and take a look before I would mount tires on one. This is what it says on there wheels.

Just painted mine today.

This..if you paid them a "little" less and said it was close enough to what they asked for..you can imagine thier response..

I order thousands of wheel components all the time..and I expect to get what I order, same would go for a single wheel.

I agree no doubt. I wonder if the OP is measuring them right?

I put a straight edge accross the back lip and measure from the bottom of the straight edge to the wheel mount flange

You must measure from inside the bead to the mounting flange, can't use a straight edge.

This is the correct way from back in the day but last night I checked about a dozen websites & they all showed the measurement taken from the rear lip....

As has been pointed out many times "I saw it on the internet so it must be true"

Think about it you measure rim width from tire bead 2 tire bead not rim edge 2 rim edge..... Back spacing is measured to the tire bead which would mean your rims are damn close to perfect....

I remeasured and you are correct. The bead is .345 (average). When this is taken into account there is only a .03" difference. Thanks for educating me on the proper way to do this!

Well I'll b damned, I had no idea that you didn't measure bs w a straightedge across the back esp as it pictured/explained like that everywhere

I have always measured back spacing across the very back edge of the wheel....as do all the people I know who build wheels

Well of course you use a straight edge across the rear bead to check BS, I worded it wrong above.
The thickness of the bead has to be accounted for in your measurments is all just like Frank stated above.

I never understood this either, until I noticed they give offset and BS numbers for same rim, they always are about 1/2" difference. Finally figured out it was the method of measurement.
