Chrysler Techs, PCM ? for 2003 T & C

Chrysler Techs, PCM ? for 2003 T & C - 08/17/11 04:34 PM

We have a 2003 T & C LX with a 3.8L

The engine light is on.

The engine is very hard to start and most of the time it will not start, but when the engine does start it will idle for a little bit and die.

We believe the Powertrain Control Module has gone bad, because the mechanic swapped one with another vehicle and the engine will run, at least in the parking lot. No road test

So, what are the options?

Can we get a PCM from a salvage yard that will work with our vehicle?

Send ours out for rebuild? Where?

I know we can get one from Chrysler, but ouch

Please offer some suggestions.

Thank you

we had the same van and had to replace ours for around $700. We had to tow it back to Chrysler to flash it also. Our van simply shut off and would not run.

A trans controller cost me close to $700 when I broke on the road in middle of no where SC

I did not ask the mechanic for the codes.

My wife ended up picking one up at the dealer .
She justs wants to get it up and running again.

We did save some money on the PCM through a friends dad.
We will get it flashed on Friday.

Thanks

I hope that fixes it for you and I sure hope you didn't jump the gun and buy something you didn't need.

Just bought one for the same vehicle. Fixed it. $300.00 preflashed (just needs vin# installed). Called local auto parts store and their warehouse had in stock. $20.00 extra to flash and core exchange. Carquest had one too for same price. Chris

PCM's go bad on these things all the time. Usually will drop the injector drivers or coil driver.

Flashed? ...PREflashed?? ...vin installed? ...??...

Are these better "rebuilt" or brand-new? What normally goes wrong with these things? .. and what causes them to fail? Any preventive things you can do to minimumize probs?

The PCM was flashed today at the dealership and the van runs again. Not perfect yet, but it runs.

We should know more Monday
