Alum drum for a mild street car with a 904. Sounds like overkill to me.

TA makes good stuff. If you were closer there's a guy here that would build you a SOLID 904 for less than 1/2 that price.

Overkill? I hadn't even condisdered that. Here's the cheaper one at Summit. It's only rated to 300HP. I'm guessing I'm close to that number, maybe even a tad over. Plus the TA unit has the lower first gearset...

You probably don't want TCI (as it's know around here as Total Crap Incorporated). But why would you want to spend that kind of coin for a transmission?

What's wrong with the one you have?
What are you trying to built that requires such a specific 1st gear ratio?
Why not just build your own? They're EASY!!!!!

You don't want or need an alum drum in a street car. That is an all out race part.

Agreed

Find out who the local racers use for there stuff if you don't want to do it yourself. They are VERY easy to rebuild.

Get a good transtar kit from one of the trans house distributors (bulkpart, makco) and a tf-2 kit and your ready to roll. Parts are usually about $200ish.

I've done a couple of 727s in the past, so I'm sure I could get the job done. I was just being lazy, I guess. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Can you guys suggest a rebuild kit for the trans and good shift kit for the valve body?

Give John Cope at CRT a call (He is a sponsor here) tell him what the trans is going to be used for and he will set you up with the correct parts for your application.

Until you make enough HP to run 10's you do not need much and the 727/904 is easy to build yourself and save the $$ for other things.

It states "clutch hub" = aluminum.... not direct drum, besides ANYONE who's priced an aluminum drum for a torqueflight knows that the price of an alloy drum is pretty close to the price of that entire trans. Personally, I don't think a $1000 "trans in a box" is a bad deal. Can you build one cheaper....duh! Of course you can, but I bet this one bolt and go knowing TA's history.

CRT web site shows a "stock" 904 at close to $700, the next one up the line good for "500hp on the street" for $1450. Call me crazy, but neither of these prices sound bad to me either, and once again, you can pretty much bet you take it out, install it, and go.... no fuss, no muss!
