Or use a weighted flex plate

No weights if you use the LY rods, not big beam six pac type.

Yep. Generally...

cast crank = weighted covnerter
forged crank w/ ly rods = non-weighted/neutral balance converter
forged crank w/ 6pack rods = weighted converter

Also in the late 70's there was the odd combo of the cast crank, weighed converter and 6 pack rods. I can only imagine how poorly that would have balanced, but they did it and got away with it.

And keep in mind, if you need a weighted converter, you also need an external balance type balancer. If need a zero balance converter, then you need a zero balance balancer to go along with it. The two have to match and be the same type for the crankshaft you are using.

Feel free to call me odd then

You just described my combo to a tee save I have a weighted flexplate and neutral conv.

I'm ok being odd

Most all cast crank motors used LY rods and had weighted balancer and convertors .

i have a 440 with big rods , forged TRW pistons and it needed very little weight added to NEUTRAL balance it .

YMMV

We got a race car with a cast crank 440 took it out without thinking of looking at the converter. Replaced it with an eagle crank with manley rods 440. If the converter had weights on it am i going to have a vibration?
