If you have a flat tappet cam motor (most pre 95 cars and trucks) Your crazy if you don't.you can wipe out your cam easy..I would put either a zink additive or a oil like Z-alt , valvoline VR1 ect. Eastwood and others have ZDDP additive. Im sure others will chime in on this subject.

I add 1 pint of zinc additive at every oil change on my cars with flat tappet cams and I use Valvoline VR-1. It is cheap insurance.

Wish I'da done this w/ my newly rebuilt hemi with solid flat tappet
cam. I used only VR1 without the Comp Cam's break in additive & the repop fuel pump pushrod took out the cam lobe.
I use the Comp additive in my 383 & no problems so far.
Lie he says, its cheap insurance.

At $10 a quart? save your money and use the additive
Even stuff like rotella(with zinc) should have the additive added.

$8 quart from Amazon. How much is the zinc additive? They say the high detergent in the new oils won't let the zinc additive do its job fully. However plenty of folks uiing it with no flat cams.

I researched this awhile back, best bang for your buck is the Lucas additive. You can pick it up locally at Advanced Auto (you can always find an online discount and pick it up). Only $3-4 extra per oil change.
