Slant Six 904 in truck - 07/20/11 06:52 AM

Will a car 904 fit into a pick up truck? I know there are different starter postions. I have a runnable car trans and a friend of a friend needs one in his truck. He is planning a swap from 318 4 speed to slant auto. Mike

I think it will work as long as they both are slants. He may have driveshaft issues going from 3 speed to 904.

yes,the 904 bolts right in the truck behind a 318

he will need a set of truck motor mount brackets and a rear sump oil pan, truck throttle pressure linkage rod to go with the 904..which are truck pieces only

may also need a longer drive shaft and smaller yoke

I think the slant is out of a truck and now that I think about it he has an auto now with the 318 so he'll stay auto, just 318 to slant 6. I told him about kickdown and we can make something work for that. Thanks, Mike

will have to go /6 and transmission together. 318 transmission will not bolt up to the /6. /6 belhousing different. Belhousing takes care of starter location.

A car slant six 904 will bolt up to a truck slant six engine as long as both engine and trans are '68-up or both are '67-down. Crank hub diameter and convertor snout register diameter changed in '68.
