Cutting down an 8 3/4. Cut and splice or new flanges? - 07/12/11 12:20 AM
Getting ready to take a C body housing in to get cut down to A body dimensions. Will they want to cut a few inches out of the two tubes and reweld the tubes together (leaving the flanges on) or just cut off the ends and reweld new flanges on?
Don't know if I need to by flanges or not.

They will cut the ends off and reweld them on after cutting the tubes.

Most of the available new flanges only work with Green (ball) bearings, if the old ones are good reuse them for sure.

The bearing issue has been argued to death on here for years. We cut a C body down and welded in new flanges as Moser axles run fine on green bearings. I also relocated the springs with the kit since the pads won't work now. Also did frame connectors at same time. Shocks on new angle not really a problem. Exhaust tight between stock fuel tank and relocated new springs. Typical small stuff after taking apart a old car but love the changes and fresh bushings and hardware. Car is a 69 B Body.
