Would any of these fit a 340? I am looking for a 727-A and this guy has these for sale but isn't sure what they fit. He sent the photos.

there are 3 different transmissions in those pics ,

second one is a cable shift , flanged unit , not what you want

third picture is for a slant 6 so it won't fit .

can you get the guy to give you the number that is on the first one ? or atleast a shot of it from the end that bolts to the engine ?

what car are you putting this in ? the top one also looks like an early rear pump trans , pre 66 ???? but with a slip yoke , so it would be a cable shift also , 65 ???

Slant six has the starter at about the 11 o'clock position, looking forward. Big block has it at about 9 o'clock, and small block at about 7 o'clock.

I had the guy dig some more transmissions out, I think he has two 727-A trannys two photos of one, and one photo of the other.
Here is another question; if a transmission was rebuilt and never used for say ten years can it be used or will it need to be gone through again. Thanks guys, Fred.

Another question; is a valve body exchangable between a 727-A and a 727-B? Also, is a valve body exchangable between a 904 and a 727-A or B? Thanks again, Fred.

John RR the trans is going behind a mild 73 340 in a 73 RR. You might remember me asking on the site if I should buy the car. I did. Fred.

Fred , this to me looks like the trans from the first pic , its a cable shift 65 , not going to work for you . yes its a smallblock 727 but its not what you want to use .

there is a number stamped on the side of the transmission on the driver side at the pan rail , have the guy give you those numbers , no guessing as to what it MIGHT be .

your question on a 10 yr old rebuild thats been sitting , i would take it apart and check the seals , possibly reseal it , a gasket kit is cheap , but then again i have the tools and the past experience to freshen one .

yes they are exchangable , but to change a 727 into a 904 you have to modify the seperator plate as there is a hole that is offset , its like that for a reason so i wouldn't do something like that unless i was broken down on the side of the road in the middle of no where and had a pile of transmissions in the back of my truck ...

the picture attached to this quote is a big block trans ...

with this in mind those are looking like big block trannys other than the one obvious 6 banger trans

Thanks John, I will see if he can get me the numbers off the side of the pan rail. I take it that the 727-A and 727-B valve bodies inter-change with out mods?

yes they will , but depending on the application there might be a slight variance in shift timing .
