Easiest way to clean out old header gasket bits? - 06/29/11 09:59 PM

My headers leaked so I bought new copper gaskets. The old paper and perforated metal ones were glued on with copper rtv and after pulling them there's bits left in there. I am too lazy to pull the whole motor to scrape them off right and the clearance is tight even with the valve covers off. The headers just barely leave enough room to slip in a new gasket.

Should I lift the motor one side at a time? Would that let me get in there? Does somebody make a wire brush that looks like a test tube cleaning brush with a long handle? Ox/a?

If somebody knows an easy way that works I'd love to hear it

Thanks

yep youre going to lift it one side at a time, got get a razor gasket remopver, all stores carry it 5-8$
just check and make sure you dont have a ledge on the side of the head m when you bolt the header up it hits the top of header flange , thus causing a leak. then you have to crind top of the header flange at an angle for clearance
