vac leak. Take the carb back off & eyeball the base gasket and check the vacuum secondary diapram & carb internal gaskets. Go where you were b 4 when you were into the carb & look for a bad/torn/misassembled gasket etc

I checked the vac lines, they looked like they were all hooked up,will take carb off if i cant fine something else.

RR was referring to the mounting gasket between the carb and manifold. start the car up and spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb. if it surges then you have a a leak.

Sprayed carb cleaner around carbs and vac lines, no leaks.

b 4 takeing the rear carb off it was OK when you floored it & nothing else was worked on/changed? What did you do to the carb?

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:05 AM

what was the reason for pulling the carb? was it running fine before that? did you mess with the vac secondaries at all?

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:12 AM

The fuel line was leaking had to take off carb,so i could get to the top nut.

Check your linkage,if the rods are tight,it will bind the throttle plates. At curb idle the rods should fit loose in the throttle shafts arms.

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:20 AM

Didnt touch the linkage or rods, Put everything back the way it was.Its like you just turn the key off.No warning.

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:27 AM

That is a puzzler, sure sounds like a massive vac leak or something in the ign getting grounded by the linkage but I know that's a stretch. Now on a 6 pak only the center carb has an accel pump right?. Do check that it's still kicking out a healthy squirt & what speed are you at when you stomp it?

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:33 AM

At dead stop.like i said,if i start off normal, its ok,just at standing start.

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:41 AM

could something have gotten into the fuel line? i would trace that back.

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 12:41 AM

The front/rear carbs are vac operated right? Is there mechanical throttle linkage on the rear carb? if not (dont know 6 paks) the only connection from the rear carb to the rest of the system is the vac line to the pod is that correct? Might unhook/cap the vac line to isolate the rear carb EDIT & if it still dies & there is mech linkage opening the rear carb I'd disconnect the linkage & retry.

Front/rear are vac, linkage on rear, will work on it tomorrow.

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 01:45 AM

odd. seems like it would be a vacuum problem, maybe you got some junk in the rear carb? Maybe start from square one and re-tune it. Choke isn't sucking shut is it?

Re: 6 pack - 06/15/11 02:07 AM

don't take them off, just grab your timing light and a vaccum gauge. unhook the ouboards and see how it runs.
