440 Distributor Question

440 Distributor Question - 06/13/11 10:21 PM

Currently I am running a promax metering block on my six pack and the ususal source for vacuum advance is gone. Can I use another source?
Also I am having a lot of problems with my idle - I set it at 950, and when I open the throttle it stays at around 2000 and eventually slows down. I have checked for binding and I have free movement of all the throttle components which is fine. I am starting to suspect the distributor, which I changed to a lighter spring on one side. I was considering one of the Firecore 50 Distributors....looking for any suggestions - thanks

was it running fine before you changed metering blocks?

It was running but very rich and I sent them off to Promax to get looked at. I had a number of issues with the set up overall that they fixed. Now that the Carbs are working I am experienceing an issue with both idle and WOT - car does not seem to be making the power it should. So I was wondering about simply swaping out the distributor and or trying to use the vacuum advance again....

W your light see what RPM it starts advancing at. If no ported is now avail might have to (re)tune for manifold vac adv

I have same problem after sending them my carbs. No power can feel outboards slam in which causes big hesitation. Was thinking distributer is advancing to soon.

no need for high dollar stuff. What is the build? I'm running a 11.2:1 440-6 ported stage VI heads, 588 solid roller and I'm using the stock carbs. I have zero issues with the set-up. What is your initial? When do you have you advance in? I have 36* all in it 2000rpm. No vac advance if you have anything but stock to mild build and if you spent the cash on those aftermarket blocks I'm guessing you have some go fast stuff. I run a 4.5PV, 70 main jets, 35 squirters and purple springs in the outboards. Go back to the basics. Unhook the outboards and set the primary for best vaccum, run the idle up to 2300 and see where your timing is. I'd set it in full at 36*-38* then hook up your outboards and back the idle down to 1000. Re-adjust for vacuum if needed.
P.S. I'm runing a stock MP distrib w/ Mr. Gasket springs and MP orange box.
