Master Cylinder Questions??? - 06/13/11 05:04 AM

What is the correct part number for a M/C for a 70 Challenger Drum brake car?
Can you use/upgrade the M/C from a disc brake car as a replacement and would it look correct? I understand that one of the chambers on a drum m/c is smaller so you can't reverse, or at least it dangerous to do so.
What the m/c look like? Is it all black, or does it have a gold colored cover??
Thanks in advance!

I have no idea on part numbers, but I do know a little about M/Cs.

The reason the disc mc is bigger is so that as the pads wear and more fluid hangs out in the caliper body the mc doesn't run dry. If you keep an eye on it and top it off once in a while you're good. When you push the caliper's piston back in to fit new pads watch out you don't overflow the mc. A turkey baster or mity-vac does the trick there.

The other thing to watch out for is some M/Cs have little one way 'residual pressure' valves just inside the hard line ports. This is to keep 5 or 10 lbs of pressure in the line to keep from having to pump the brakes when you stop.

Good luck

(1) yes (2) no clue. Only caveat is you ideally want one w the correct bore dia for a drum app for the best pedal feel/proportioning

Does anyone have an original part#? or better yet a photo of what this beast looks like?? I think I found one but I want to make sure it's correct before I shell out the coin!
