Need a Mopar mechanic in NE Illinois

Need a Mopar mechanic in NE Illinois - 09/22/08 07:13 PM

I have a 74 Fury (ex police car) with a 440 that I can't get running. I have done the basics but have run out of patience. I'm looking for someone to diagnose the problem and get the car running. Maybe some other mechanical repairs, also. Don't have a big budget, so am unable to take it to a commercial shop with their labor rates. PM me if you can help. I can tow the car to your location.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks. I called Mopar City but he didn't have anyone to recommend. He might have some body panels that I need, though.

I'm in Naperville, but the car is stored in Yorkville right now. I tried signing on to the Chicagoland Mopar forum but it hasn't accepted my registration yet.

Simple Q&A first...
does it turn over?
do you have spark?
do you have gas at the carb?
did you change the ballast resistor?
did you change the ignition control module?
did you advance the timing(incase the timing chain jumped)to see if it will start?

-It turns over

-Don't know about spark, haven't had a helper to check while it turns over.

-new ballast resistor, new orange module, new plug wires, new cap & rotor

-carb rebuilt by demonsizzler, is getting gas to carb (new gas tank and fuel pump)

-haven't played with the timing, but dist rotor is turning and rocker arms are moving when engine turns over.

you can turn the key to ON,get out, remove the coil wire from the cap, ground it,ie lay it on metal, then take a screwdriver and cross the two posts on the starter relay and the starter will engage,it will turn over, then 1 person can check for spark....you should see a spark from the coil wire to the metal ground....
