AAAAHHH!! Frustrated and need help! - 06/09/11 05:54 PM
I'm so close to the finish line with this restore but just can't seem to cross the dam thing.
Car Info:
72 Cuda
1969 340 w/complete MSD ign, Comp 280H cam, & 650 4150
4 speed
3 problems:
1. Wiring: When I wired in the MSD 6AL I wired the initial power wire into the acc that would normally goto an electric choke. I also wired the electric fuel pump in on the same acc wire. The car will not start by the key but will by a starter button hooked to the batt and starter silinoid. Where should I wire the MSD and fuel pump to so that when the key is turned on it all gets the power they need?
2. The motor is a 1969 340 and has the timing marks cast into the cover on the passenger side behind the watter pump inlet, so you cant see them. To add to the problem the balancer is an aftermarket piece and so the timing marks are 90deg off. I cannot seem to get this timing right. Comp said that the initial timing is 12-14 deg total timing is 36-38 and they want it all in before 3000. So according to MSD they said to use the silver bushing (25 Deg) and by their timing graph (E) I should use one light silver spring and one light blue spring and this is what I have done. Since I cannot use the timing light and do it the correct way im trying to get it close by ear. I can get it sounding right in the shop but when I test drive it the timing sounds way off when the motor is under a load. What should I do???
3. Last of all the brakes... The car came with front disks (which have been rebuilt) the rear have been converted using SSBC's conversion kit. I can get everything to bleed out properly but while on the test drive the brakes are barely grabbing. I have gone over every connection and bled them again and all looks good but still almost NO stopping power. What the heck??
Any Ideas??
