22" or 26" radiator? - 06/09/11 04:24 PM

Guys, Which radiator has more capacity or holds more coolant/water,
a 26" two row or a 22" 3 or 4 core radiator for a 69 Superbee with 383? The 26" is a 6 year old radiator from yearone. I need one that will cool the engine the most. Thanks.

How big is you core support opening? If it is just 22" then you are loosing some of you current cooling capacity due to the lack of air flow across the cooling fins. If that is the case, then a 22" 3 row should be more efficient for you. If you have a 26" opening, why would you want to put a smaller radiator in it's place. Go up to a 26" 3 row.

It is a 22" opening and I have a 26" two row but I am going back to a 22". My old radiator is a 22" 2 row and I need more cooling than the 26" 2 row gives me. So I need about 5-10 degrees more cooling and I want to go back to the 22" 3 core factory look.

My 69 Bee came with a 22 inch rad and actually did pretty good with the 440 I transplanted(440/030 over) but I installed a champion alum rad with shroud and 7 blade clutch fan. Started with a 160 stat but it cools so well I'm going to a 180. The 22 inch opening just barely covers a small portion of the fins...so that is not an issue with 22 vs 26.

I have champion rads on both My cars and they are cheap and they do the job.
