rich idle - intake?? - Update

rich idle - intake?? - Update - 05/30/11 02:05 AM

I am currently running a single plane intake on my 360 cuda.

I have tuned the heck out of my 750 Holley and I can not get ride of the stinky rich idle.

Would moving to a dual plane intake help with the rich idle condition or is it more of a cam issue???

Thanks,

Jason

Assuming float level/pv # are/is correct. Is the PV blown? What idle vac (in gear), what PV #

Float levels look good, PV is stock 6.5 and was good when I put it away in the fall.

Last time I checked the idle in gear was 10.5.

I am just looking for better driveability out of the car.

It's pig rich idling in gear. EDIT 750 vac? Might turn the idle mix screws in to lightly seated (count # of turns to ret them exactly) & see if that kills it. What cam what initial

yep 750 vac.

I will try turning in the idle screws the next time I get the car out.

Here are my current specs:

74 Cuda with a 360,
Eddy torker II intake,
Eddy torker Plus cam,
The specs are as follows:
@050 Int dur. 222 , Ex dur. 232
Lift Int .447 Ex .450
Intake Centre line 107 obe seperation 112.
About 9:1 compression.
Holley 750 vac secondary carb.
Dizzy has been recurved, running 19 initial, 38 total all in before 3000.

727 with stock converter (I know -its on the list!)
8-3/4 with 3.22s

bump...gota line on a performer rpm for a reasonavle price.

Any thoughts on weather it will help the rich idle condition?!??!?!!?

A dual plane will deliver a stronger fuel delivery signal to the carb which should help.

It should help, but your current set up should also work just fine.

Have you seen if turning the idle screws all the way in kills it yet? I'm betting that it doesn't, and for some reason you're idling on the main circuit.

Had the car out last night and tuned it a bit...

Turning in just one of the idle screws will cause it to die,so I think my PV is good and I am runnin gon the idle circuit.

Tuning it to the best vac (in drive) results in a very rich idle mixture.

When I hook up the vac adv, full vac, I reset the idle down to about 800, and it is still stinky rich.

Also when I hit it hard from idle to WOT the thing just stalls, which I think is a a rich condition, but I'm not sure. When I roll gently into the throttle from a stop, it accelerates OK, slipping the tires just a bit.

All in all I do not think I will worry to much about it right now, as I picked up a Performer RPM intake this week, so I will pick up the tuning once I install it.

Thanks guys.

this may sound stupid, but while i was chasing down a heat soak issues on my eddy 1411 carb on a dual plane intake(Eddy CH4B on a 440), i installed a 4-hole 1" spacer....to my surprise my idle and low end was now tunable, and i completely solved my pig rich issues.
i'm thinking along the lines that a 4bbl carb on a big hole of an intake doesn't give that good a signal to the barrels of the carb, but i could tell right on startup that stoopid 4-hole spacer made a HUGE difference....it also cured my off-idle stumble!!
