Help, me find early A body parts - 05/29/11 11:43 PM

I have started my latest project,,

Don't laugh , its a 1965 Valiant wagon

Do they make

Windshields, windshield gaskets ?

Do they make 1/4 window gaskets ?

Who makes a front conversion for them , looked at Alterkation but, that website is more confusing than a women

I looked on ebay, looks like some aussie co makes a lower 1/4 panel patch kit

anyone familar with that ?

The floors are going to need some work

the holes were covered with 3 tab shingles

Thanks Jackie

No one's gonna laugh. Early A-bodies are very cool, but often a challenge to find parts for.

What do you mean by "front conversion?" K frame???

I want to replace the front suspension with something, R&p steering, no t-bars, disc brakes

etc .

I know Magnum force makes tube style one but I
d rather use another source

Thought o'reily motorsports made one ?

aka. Alterkation

Not sure about where to get a rack and pinion set up. For disc brakes you can use the 67 & up pieces. Relatively cheap and very easy.

Try restorationspecialties.com for rubber; they have the early B wagon quarter glass seals.
Patch panels, try Sherman & Associates. If the rear quarter areas roll under like an early B, you can make those from sheet stock pretty easily.
For glass, try your local auto glass shop or a Mopar yard like Stephens'.
'65 Valiants are my favorite early A, and y'all already know I like wagons.
I'm guessing you want some room for headers?

Good question Top Side. Big dad, what are your intentions with this thing?

Reilly motorsports does make the Alterkation. Yes, I think the website is a little confusing also. Best bet is just call him, great guy to deal with.

It takes dedication and love to build an early A, lol (I have a '65 Dart)

check out abodiesonly, they have a lot of info and a forum on early A's plus a good classified section.

I've had a '66 Valiant for 13 years. I thought the car was ugly the first time I saw it, and I've thought it was ugly every minute I've owned it. (I bought it as a favor for a buddy who needed cash)

Layson's has a lot of stuff for early A's that you can't get anywhere else, or even from Dave sometimes.

Thanks for the replys

It is going to be at some point ..

Street 30% / strip car 70%, I want to be able to drive it to the closest track (15 miles) away

Pump gas, either turbo, or pro-charger or a LOAD of NOS , Hopefully I will not paint it . just fix the few issues it has , think SLEEPER

But , with an attitude ,big inch small block
275 drag radials, coon tail on the antenna

It has to be cool and clean but still ugly to have fun and I am going to have an overdrive trans to make it a long distance driver too

that's B-body only. they do interchange with early A body floor panels but must use darker stone covering.

The driver's floor in my Valiant was patched with a street sign. I pulled it out when I did patch the floor, it was a 'Kentucky motor vehicle inspection station' sign.

As mentioned, you should become a member of http://forabodiesonly.com/ if you're not already.

Back when I had a '65 Dart, the only hard to find parts were headers. I think there are a couple choices now days, but the good ones probably aren't cheap.

Hey BigDad,

Tinted Wind Shields are readily available. As is the gasket. I found 2 NOS clears in the US and one was broke in shipping. They surface semi regularly tho

I believe the vent windows gaskets are available. They were for my 66 dart.

I would highly recommend the alter K. I didn't do it but wish I would have. The early A's are narrower than their later brothers. Headers are a pain. I did the Spitfires (cheap) and while a decent alternative, I spent 400 getting the collector pipes past the torsion bars so they wouldn't rattle.

Have fun with it, PM me if you have any questions, I rebuilt mine from the rotisserie up
