Wiped Out Center Cam Bearings WHY! - 05/21/11 04:31 PM
While instaling a new cam, we discovered the three center cam bearings are wiped out. Can't figure out why, the motor (340) always had good oil pressure (35-40 at idle after warm). Not sure if there is any damage in the lowe end, we will know more next week. The motor was built by a good builder in the Detroit area and had about 1000 miles on it. All advise is appreciated.

Sounds like the other cam was to tight and created to much heat.

Sometimes they get ugly looking, even if the original fit was nice and smooth. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the holes all still line up. It's sometimes hard to slide a new cam into block when engine is in car still w/out bumping a bearing or two with a lobe or two. But if the bearings really look bad, you know what you gotta do.
