I got a little noise coming from my 440. Its a new build, less than 100 miles on it. Its not a "knock" its just just like a little tick sort of. Im wondering if its just engine noise from the solid lift cam. Its a comp 280H. The motor was assembled by a very reputable builder in town, but im nervous about driving it till I know for sure. Any thoughts?

not yet, i've thought about that. Anybody know the specs for that. I got mopar adjustable rockers solid tip.

your cam card will have the required lash settings.

280H? Doesn't the H denote a hydraulic rather than solid cam?

Killer, what kind of pistons were used in your build? If forged, you may just be hearing some piston noise from clearances required for some forged slugs. Does it get quieter once warmed up?

ticking noise...anything really... piston knock till they warm up and tighten up on their specs, which is why we let them fully warm up before beating on them.

could be an exhaust leak that developed, as headers are notorious for burning out gaskets nad ticking/leaking

could just be the sound of the cam. my hydraulic cam worried me at first too, being that it's my first performance build...sounds like a darn sewing machine tapping away.

pull the valve covers, check that you didn't have an adjustable rocker back off, I've had that happen to me too, even with a hydraulic cam, that'll make a tick. then check your header bolts to make sure there's no leaks. start it up and hold your hand around the headers before they get hot to feel for exhaust puffing past the gasket...if all checks well, then it's probably just normal...let it fully warm up before beating on it.

They're stock pistons. It was a very low mileage motor, we just went in and honed the cylinders new rings etc. And the sewing machine example is pretty accurate. Its not exhaust leak either i checked that. And it does quieten down after it warms up. It doesn't sound horrible it just caught my attention and thought I'd see what ya'll thought. For your peace of mine, best bet is to follow the advice above. Pull the valve covers and double check the valve adjustment. Make sure they all have the appropriate amount of preload (zero lash plus a half to 3/4 turn on the adjuster).

Took the valve cover off today, easy fix. The rocker arm was barely hitting the baffle in the cover.I took a hammer and dented it in a little bit and it cleared right up.
