09 Jeep Patriot Leaking Sunroof - 05/17/11 06:24 AM

A very good friend of mine has a 09 Jeep Patriot. Every time it rains she has water dripping from the dome light. This is the fourth time she has had it back at the dealer. The Last time in they replaced the seals and the drain assembly. Any techs out there know what the deal is with these sunroofs? Seems to be a common problem with the 09 Jeep Patriots. Any info will help.

Those are miserable water leaking cars have seen alot of different areas they leak from. For starters remove the headliner and be careful if it has airbags. Check the rear drain tubes (often get overlooked) for being plugged of pinched. There is a TSB for that. The front corners of the sunroof frame. Add strip calking to the seams where the frames come together. The most recent one was leaking under the roof rails for the luggage rack. The body seams not sealed in spots.

See attachment for the TSB. Very good information.

If it's been in four times for it chances are it was in while warranty covered it... I'd be talking to a service manager & if he won't cover it I'd be asking to speak to the zone rep..

Just had my 2010 Compass fixed same problem. The pass side drain tube was kinked from the factory. They told me they were aware of it and won't recall them because it not a safety issue. But will fix them if needed.

Thanks for the info Todd. The Jeep has just under 28K on it. I'd have to look at her receipts from the dealer to see if the work from that TSB was done. I know the last time it was in for the same issue, they had to order all the parts. They had the Jeep for 4 days to do the work. The next would be to talk to the Zone rep. We are supposed to get a lot of rain here in the next week so we'll see if the problem is take care of. Thanks for the info guys.

I have the same problem with my Jeep commander. Water leaks onto my driver's side floor board. The Chrysler service department tells me that it is because the sunroof drain tubes are clogged. And they insist every time (4 times so far) that it is my responsibility to keep the sunroof clear of debris and therefore, I have to pay to have the tubes cleaned out every time. And Chrysler Corp refuses to take responsibility. Anyone know who manufactures the sunroofs for Chrysler?

it certainly is a safety issue - mold, electrical shorts just to name a few . . . it is for this reason we brought a class action - www.pllawfirm.com.

It is? It probably has nothing to do with billable hours, does it?
