What Kind of Crankshaft would a 1972 360 have?? - 05/16/11 02:24 PM

Need some help for a friend.

He has a 1972 360 in a 72 chrysler that is needing some trans work and he needs a converter.

He needs to know what type of crankshaft is in the 360.

Is it cast or forged?
Internally or externally balanced?

I realize this is not alot of information but its what I had to go by. Also as far as I know this is the original engine to the car..

Thanks for any help to can give..

All production 360's use cast, externally balanced crankshafts regardless of year or model of vehicle. Supposedly some of the cranks were actually cast in GM foundries and can be identified by the letters CFD.

Some of the 360s downunder have the CFD cranks, even though they are still cast is there any truth in the rumour that CFD cranks are better than the none CFD cranks or is it just an old wives tail
