PISTON QUESTION

PISTON QUESTION - 05/14/11 09:36 PM

I have read on other post that most hate kb pistons. So on a 70 440 hp build back to stock. which pistons would you guys suggest without breaking the bank. looking to stay at 9.5 - 10.5 compression so which ones would you run in a street car?
motor is 40 over std 906 heads

kb pistons are fine as long as you follow their specs. many guys were trying to run normal ring gaps, which kb specifically says NOT to because it will pop the top of the pistons off when they get hot, then complained when that happened. what type of piston are you looking for? forged, cast, or hyper?

not real sure I was thinking kbs but maybe trw replacments not real sur I do know kbs are reasonably priced so looking for options most bang for the buck deal

Not much more to move up to these forged 10.5 to 1 most heads give 10 to 1. Speeed pro forged

KB also has forged either way $100 is more than Hyper/sterling pistons
the way to go in MHO.

Hate ? ... that is an awful strong word to use. I would say "avoid" if possible.

BREAK THE BANK ? ...why try and cheap-out on something that is not that much more money and on something that is so hard and expensive to UPgrade to ??

IMO ... IF POSSIBLE .... use cast or forged.

What Doc said, OE MP cast (not other brand cast) pistons are stout as hell. I've (& others) have beat them almost to death & I've yet to see 1 piston fail. ~.003 P/W & that's it if you can get a CH to suit you

yep those are the ones I was thinking about & from mancini. after reading about kb hyps thanks for the help again

No problem at all with KB pistons. Have them in my 63 and my sons Dart. Mine is a 440 and his is a 400 and we run them as hard as you can. 63 has been on the road 4 years and my sons Dart with the 400 over 8 years. You just have to set the ring eng gaps right. Ron

I've used KB's in my Slant for many years with no issues. I've even sprayed them. I open up the ring gaps even more than they suggest and have had no issues.
