Lubricate E brake cable with what?? - 04/30/11 02:51 AM

Before I re-assemble the E brake, throttle and transmission shifter cables, I want to lubricate them, cuz I can tell they are "dry".

What is used? Regular motor oil?

I've also got some decent spraycan white lithium grease that should be able to work its way in nicely. There are some good aircraft lubricants but I don't have any on my shelf right now.

Thanks,

I took the ones on my 65 and soaked them in my parts cleaner for a few days. Then blew them dry and used Zep penatrating spray with silicone in it.They work as good as new after 5 years.I use mine all the time thats the key to keeping them free.Rocky

I used a Dry Graphite spray can lubricant once...all it did was to gum it all up...the cable was hard to move after, etc...maybe a problem with the plastic liner in the cable??? I have no idea...but it didn't work out for me.
