Upper Ball Joint

Upper Ball Joint - 04/18/11 04:18 PM

I've got an upper ball joint that I need to replace on a 73 Challenger. I'm here at work and forgot to measure the socket that I need. Does anyone have an idea as to the size of the socket required. I'm going to raid my buddies tool chest after work.

Thanks -

the sockets are specially made for those ball joints.

Yep , in a pinch a pipe wrench will work , it's basically a 2 sided cap with rounded corners .

I would guess across the flats.

yes w care & I would suggest slightly unscrewing the castellated nut on the bottom then tapping on the side of the spindle to break it (the tapered stud) loose letting the tension do the work for you then back on top breaking the UBJ loose while the arm is still on the vehicle. Thought they (UCA's) were stouter than that but can bend one R&R ing the UBJ in a vise then it's too wide/narrow when you go to set the bushing ends back into the frame
