Confusing ID # on 413 motor home engine. - 04/17/11 12:53 AM
Here is what I know for sure about the engine. It is a 413 out of a motor home. I cannot positively id the year of manufacture. There are no casting #s or date on the right side of the block like I am accustomed to seeing on other big blocks.
The #s on the stamping pad are:
FT413
3 17
Can anyone ID this engine?
Thanks for any help.

I would say it is a 70 .
There is not casting date ?? That is odd .

This engine is complete from carb to oil pan with most of the accessories still on it. There is probably a casting # on it somewhere, I just did not want to strip the engine to locate it. It has no casting # in the usual place you see them on 400s and 440s. It should be decodable from the id stamped on the id boss but I have not been able to google anything on it that seems reliable. Some say the F stand for year 70 but the 413 I believe was discontinued before this date. Some say the T stands for truck engine others say the T stand for year model 63. Nothing consistent.

I had a 73 Dodge chassis Champion body motor home with the 413. I think production ended in 71 or 72 for that engine..., with chassis in stock at the body builders for a year or two after that.. None of the Just in Time BS they use today..

NO BIG casting #'s on this block that I am aware of ... just a small casting date.
