383 piston ID

383 piston ID - 04/15/11 01:23 AM

Need some help identifying some 383 big block pistons. They are stamped .03 on all of them. Not .030 but .03 which is the first time Ive seen that but Ive only had one other mopar motor apart in my life. The cylinders look pretty fresh no ridge, some evidence of cross hatches etc.

Looks like maybe they balanced it from looking at the crank and rods.

I know it ran, I heard it and drove it onto my car trailer.

Anyway I pulled it apart cuz it had been sittin a few years and it looks like a fresh motor but I can only find 265 stamped on the inside of the skirts and .03 on the head and thats it. No other markings. I can tell its not a forged piston but I was hoping to find out some kind of information on them.

My next step is to see how far in the hole they measure and until then Id like to know what they may be or if anyone has seen something like this in a big block mopar.

Did they come with any information by chance?

they have a decent comp height but i dont recall what it is. the ones i have are used pistons.

Does this look correct?

Ring Groove size's are 2-5/64 and 1-3/16.
Pin diameter is 1.0939.

Compression Height is: 1.900

I am using the DCC gasket kit which comes with the felpro head gaskets I believe, havent opened it yet but they dont indicate steel head gaskets like factory used.

I am also using 516 heads but they arent on yet not too late to have them decked....

Just opened it up to see what I had.

Its a fresh motor with those pistons, stock valve size 516 (well im assuming havent measured them yet but lookin at them id say stock valve sizing) 474 mopar cam, streetmaster intake and 1 3/4 headers. Im ditching the intake, adding double true roller timing chain and gear, all new gaskets and trickflow head bolts and a windage tray. Like to know ABOUT where my compression is gonna be. Ill know more when I see what the compressed gasket thickness is and see how far down the hole the pistonies are.

depends on what the heads cc at for the compression but i guess it will come in at around 9.0-9.4 cr with the 516s.

Thats what I figure as well. Should work ok with the small mopar cam and the garbage we get at the pump out here in california.

Thanks for the input.
