Aluminum or Steel?

Aluminum or Steel? - 04/11/11 06:25 AM

The electric fuel pump that I'm using requires a larger line than what is on my RamCharger which also means that I have to change the dip tube size on my sender To do this I was going to use a 90 degree bulkhead fitting & attach the larger diptube to it. All using #8 AN style fittings What would you use ? Aluminum or steel for the tube?

Im using aluminum for my fuel line, no problems. works well, and its soft for easy shaping.

This is Bigblock340power here, not Danan!
I put 1/2" alumn. on my stroker 416 from the tank to the fuel pump. Been running it for years now with no problems. Easy to work with, holds up well.
Good luck!

I think the key here is the application.
Since you say Ramcharger I have to ask-
Are you going to take it off road? Ever?
If you are- Go with the Steel- toooooo easy to crush a aluminum line with a rock, tree stump, large branch, etc.
You don't wanna know how I know that....

If you are never going off road then the Aluminum is just fine. Been using it on street and track cars for decades...no problems at all.

Hope this helps,
CC.

What engine do you have ? Do you need the upgrade the line size or is this being done because of the pump and you THINK you have to ?
