Will a 15x8 rim with 3.25 inch backspace fit on the rear of a 1967 Charger???

15x8 with 4.5 backspace seems to work best.

Will a 3.25 backspace fit? Do you think it's a case of too little backspace as far as a 15x8 goes? I found some Convo Pros for a good price, fronts are 15x6 with 3.5" backspace - but backs.....

Nope: Not without a narrowed 9 inch under it.

The Chargers have a different opening on the rear wheel well than a Coronet. 4.25 rear spaciing is max before your tire will rub the leaf spring. I have seen as wide as a 10" wide wheel on a Charger with 4" of back space and I thought it looked good. It brought the rear tire out to the wheel well better than a 15x8.
My opinion only.

Wouldn't a 15x10 with 4" of backspace be very close to a 15x8 with 3.25" of backspace??!?

The cop car wheels on my car are ( I think ) 4.25" BS with 275/60R15's and they are very close to the spring. The also rub the inside of the wheel well on short, steep approaches. I am getting ready to order some 8", 3.5" backspace Pro Stars to put some 275/60/15 ET Streets on the car.

If you would like I can let you know how it works out. With the current config I have over two inches between the wheel lip and the side wall of the tire. My car does not have wheel well molding, so yours might be different.

Here is a PM I received from member 67Charger on the same subject a few days ago...

"

I went with 15x8's with 4.5" b.s., but now that they are on there, I realize I should have gotten the 15x10's with the same b.s.. Running 28x10.5 ET drags, the sidewall will rub the inner wheelwell during sharp turns. If the wheel was 2" wider with the same b.s., the center of the tire would move to the outside by 1 inch which would give me the inside clearance I need, straighten the sidewalls out and get the tread flatter to the ground. I currently have 2 1/8" between the wheel opening and the outside of the tire.

As always, your mileage may vary, but on MY car, this is what I've found. Hope it helps!

Awesome, let me know how it works for sure!!

I have SuperStock springs on the rear, I notice the previous owner installed the front hangers so the offset is to one side, my diff now sits half an inch towards the driver's side.
I'll correct the spring hangers and center the rear.
I have the wheelwell trim, it looks like the 3.25" backspace might put the tires too close to my trim. I guess I'll have to try a few wheels/tires and see what fits?!?
