Front runners... - 04/09/11 03:16 AM

I'd appreciate some feedback on selecting front tires and wheels. My main concern is mixing radial and bias ply tires, and second is selecting the right size tire/ rim. Presently I have M/T sportsman fronts and slicks, but I have been back on the street, and I have the same fronts and BFG Drag radials for that.
I want to keep the BFG's for the street and am starting over up front because I'm going big bolt pattern. I know some like to use P (metric) size tires. What is the best combo for staying thin for the track, but not following the ruts so badly on the street? I'm leaning towards Billet spec R/T wheels. Thanks for the input!

I had the MTs on the front of my 65.Had MTs on the rear. The fronts were the worst tires I ever saw.We tried them on my kids 62 300 same thing they were all over. Now I run bias MTs rear and 165 80 15 radials front. It goes strait as an arrow even at 120 at the track.I know my alingment is good as I did it my self at work and have been doing them for 25 years.Rocky

If its for your duster, I ran 165r15 ( can also be found as 165/80r15) on my dart sport. They are 26" tall if i remember right---I ran them on 5.5", 5" and 3.5" wide wheels on the street with no issues. You can also go up from there. Depends too what rim size your going to run and how tall of a tire your after. I have seen 205/75/15's as a popular size too, but I think it requires triming of the front fender lip on an A-body if i remember right.

I never saw the issue of mix and matching bias and radials, I always had radials on the front however and it worked great. Maybe when you do it the opposite way it causes issues?

Thank You. I see Jegs has these, http://www.jegs.com/i/BF-Goodrich/131/86745/10002/-1?parentProductId=746885

I think they might be good, and they're about right for the 4" rim size.

@therocks, You do alignments on a machine @ work, or @ home? I was thinking of fabbing a set of turn pates and getting this..

to use @ home.
