Oil Leak 70 383 ?????? Update Fixed!!!!!!!!! - 04/08/11 12:28 PM

On my RoadRunner every time I drive it any distance there is oil blowed up on the passenger side inner fender well just behind the windshield washer jug. It isn't leaking around the fuel pump. I have every thing like it is suppose to be on the PVC and vents. I have had the valve cover off several times, do you think that it could be coming out around the front of the cover? I just put a new gasket on it and haven't drove it yet. The cover is flat. If this doesn't fix it where should I look. I'm just getting tired of having to clean it every time I drive it. Thanks for any ideals. Ronnie

Dipstick is on driver's side, no? If it is the dipstick he should see some trail of oil over to the passenger fender I would think.

I have been back out looking at it and it isn't the timing cover either so it just about has to have been the valve cover. I'm going to drive it again in the morning so I'll see if it is fixed. It makes a mess. Ronnie

Well I put a new gasket on the valve cover, one of the good black coated Fel Pro's and now I have no leak. I got this fixed and on the way home it went to running like crap.It was clattering and wouldn't idle. Does this sound like it got some trash in the carb? Ronnie

Carburetor problems shouldn't make any clatter. That sounds like low oil pressure.

This is an all new 383, maybe 800-1000 miles on it. It has always had good oil pressure. My gauge just works when it wants to. After it got past the point of clattering it ran fine untill I got to a lite and I had to keep it idled up just a little and when it did die it would crank right back up. It wasn't running hot. It started all this after I stopped and bought gas. That is the reason I thought it might have got some trash in it. The Edlebrock on it is about 10 years old and I had it on my 340 before I put it on this motor. It has never been apart since I bought it. Any ideals will really help, I have another show this next Sat. so I need to get it straightened out. Thanks Ronnie
