Not Sure on the RPM,s,craftsman 18.5 volt....slows to a crawl.

An 18.5 should have some grunt. But the better combo would be some-sort of a 1/2" corded drill.

EITHER way should get you good priming. Do you have an actual mech gauge on the car?

I do(in car) will use a mirror, our wait for some eyes is a fair bit of resistance expected from the drill?

Yes it'll be very hard to turn, takes a lot of torque from the drill. 1/2" electric with a slow speed is best. You will see full pressure with the drill. Turn the crank a couple times too while running the drill. A battery operated drill don't stand a chance because it takes a lot of power to spin that oil pump with the oil cold.

In a pinch, even a speed handle works ok if your drill is too weak.

Speed handle on my new small block, I was holding 50 lbs as we set it up.
If I went harder faster I could get 70.

Thanks for the numbers, I could use a bigger drill for sure.

My 10 year old Black and Decker 3/8 drill still works. I spin the prime stick fast enough to generate 70+ lbs in my 440/493.

You don't need a drill. I use a speed wrench and I don't have any trouble seeing 60 psi. A speed wrench works better anyway because you can get a "feel" for the oil pump. Big block motors often have a problem with the pump binding up so checking it by hand can save you a lot of grief down the road.

Excellent point. I'm assuming you are going to turn it & hit both heads

Yes, TDC split overlap gets the passenger side, then rotate the crank 450 degrees to oil the driver's side.

what he said, I did it at tdc roated it some hit it again rotated hit it again and rotated 1 more time. I used a good craftsman and it hit 70...runs at 80 until warm.

I was using thick 20/50 oil, and a zinc additive on my last build. priming the oil pump burned out the 3/8" drive drill! (I mean, smoke coming out of the drill motor) I had to step up to a 1/2" drive drill.

Next time don't use a drill, just turn it by hand. You won't burn out the drill and you'll be able to verify that everything is working smoothly.

If you do use a drill, make sure it's turning in the right direction! I had a friend that tried and tried but couldn't get prime. He was sure he assembled something wrong. I went over to try to diagnose the problem and said "Try it this way", reversed the drill. BINGO! 75lbs. Did he feel dumb but relieved that he didn't have to go into the motor.

Amount lbs doesn't matter until start up. Just make sure you have oil to all the rocker arms and your ready to go.

What the heck is this? NOBODY asked you about your political opinions. Your post has nothing to do with an oil pump. Whats next? Are you going to post about your pink thong underwear?
