8 3/4 diff carrier gasket part # ??

8 3/4 diff carrier gasket part # ?? - 04/06/11 06:52 AM

My local NAPA store had trouble finding the differential carrier gasket I need. I like using the gasket AND RTV, so I would appreciate it if any member here can relay the Fel Pro #. To be clear, this is the gasket that slides on the 10 studs in the axle housing where the third member fits it. Thanks, people.

i never use a gasket, the "right stuff" works just fine for me, never any leaks, and don't have to try and find a gasket to spend $14 on .

No gasket for me either. Just some black permatex and never any leaks.

You RTV-only guyz think about this. You pop the pig out and you scrape and scape THEN you put a bead on and spread it out carefully .....

What-the-fugg .... ... by the time you do JUST THAT ... I could do the whole pig-change

Whatcha' do is GLUE the gasket onto the housing and make sure that the case-face of the pig is super-clean and lightly oiled and the pig-swap is a pieceOcake !

It has been awhile since I have swapped one out .... but my wife timed me once ....on the ground, floor jack, jack-stands and an electric impact gun ......

.... 21 minutes !

Wait. I probably already have by now.

The felpro gasket w motor oil on each side, no leaks/reuseable. cleaning RTV off of/around each stud is . the "right stuff" is leakfree/very tough & but not if I had to change 3rd members regularly

Hey doc...
I have a Holley 750 on the FrankenDuster and my 67 Dart. My bro in law had a Holley 600 on a fairly stock 360 in his Duster that he keeps here. My Charger has a Barry Grant 850.
I understand that you have a twisted sense of humor and I can appreciate that. Personality is what separates us from the sheep/drones! Having said THAT, I am still curious about your berri crab references. Is THIS the name that some idiot used to refer to a Barry Grant carburetor? Is this like the hairlipped guy calling spaghetti "bisketty" or a "hangaburr" instead of a hamburger? Inquiring minds want to know...............

Hay F-dude .......

HAPPY to hear that you are a Holley fan ... this just might allow you a more interesting title !

LET me 'splain this Berri crab biz again.

Do you know a bush that has Holly berries ? ....Holly and Holley ...same/same ...right ? Then there is the word CRAB. Just a misspelling of the word carb. And a person that is a user of a Berri crab is commonly-known-as a Berri-Bumz. Capice ?

BG was never even thought of.

LOTS of people find it . A select few ? ... not so much. Well on them !! And then - in the past - some of these same people would DISS the TQ. It is their option and opinion ... but their uNtolerance is noted.

ALL in fun here ...at least from my end.

You ...and three cars with Berries on all ? ... us in the ThermoSquad are going to have to CONVERT you from your MISguided ways.

But uNtil you find the "correct path" .... how would you like to be titled ? ....

Okay... First up: Funny, but I am unfamiliar with a Holley bush, maybe they dont grow here. then again, horticulture isnt my strong point.
I get the joke now.
The Holleys work great for me. I have had 2 ThermoQuads catch fire on me. Sure, they were old and needed a refresh, but I only like fire with beef or chicken over it. I dont know of anyone in Sacto that knows how to rebuild them right. I'd use one on the Charger to gain some mpg if I had a good one.
The Frankenduster is so named because it started as an original B5 blue 74 Duster slant sick automatic but is NOW a clone of a 71 Duster 340.
Finally..... Your nickname for me? Uhhhh, I'm not feeling the love for it. I'll stick with what works for me. Thanks though. I like the whole "smart alecky" thing you got going here. It makes things more interesting here.

You could get one from this guy. I believe he quoted me 375.00, bolt it on and go.

He has 150,000 carbs in stock, probably has something for your application.

There is a guy on MOPARTS who does an EXCELLENT job with T-Quads.

BTW, attached is a pic of a Holly. I am here to guarantee you don't want an encounter with one while wearing shorts exiting your G/F's house at night through a window. Not that I would know, personally...

Re: 8 3/4 diff carrier gasket part # ?? - 04/07/11 06:49 PM

I have dealt with the people at the Carburetor FACTORY, not the Carburetor shop. Maybe they are different? The ones I dealt with are nice people but I wasnt happy with the AVS they rebuilt for me. They went through it THREE times and it still isnt right. I had an Edelbrock 1406 rebuilt by them that crapped out after 6 months. It seems that paying $220 for a rebuild service that is barely better than soaking in chem dip isn't working for me. The parts kit is less than $40, so why pay $180 for service? I can figure out Holley carbs myself. $350 for a rebuilt ThermoQuad sounds a little stiff. Thak you though. I didnt realize it would be THAT much.

I think that Superformance is making that gasket now from the good MP-15 material. Check around and see if you can find those gaskets.

You guys are a hoot! Okay, back to the question. I just ordered some from Autozone online. Fel-Pro part number RDS 6583. I love the gaskets. Just got done, yesterday, cleaning Permatex off of one. What a pain in the neck. Tried to protect the insides with rags and duck tape and still got little pieces of dried Permatex on the gears...gaskets for me.

A few years ago, I bought two from Marsh Perf when he was set up at the Memorial Day Mopar Show in Valdosta GA. Todd Marsh is a member here, screen name 'sasquatch'. IIRC, they were MP parts.
