whining noise in trans (?) with accel - 04 Jeep GC

My GF has a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the transmission makes a whining noise when it is under load (even slight); it sounded something like a pump cavitation, or like fluid going going through a small passage with air...


The trans is full...

It does not shift or do anything funny, but maybe shifts a bit late?

Any ideas?

What transfer case or is it 2-wheel drive.? What trans?

Not sure of the trans, but it is has the 4.0, 4wd (it has the shift transfer case with full and part time and 4wd low).

Let me know if you need any more info...

Have the identical model.If you drive with the overdrive off with the trans in drive you will get a pronounced gear whine from the transfer case,the sound is very noticeable in the passenger compartment with the radio off.This is normal.If you have noise with the overdrive on it is back to the drawing board trying to pinpoint the area of the drivetrain the noise is coming from.
