What do these "Y" codes mean on a broadcast sheet? - 03/26/11 10:11 PM

on my TA sheet in the top right block for special delivery and handling it has as follows:

Under the "build spec for" the is a 5

under the sold car sales bank there is a 4.

I was reading Barry's TA newsletter with a breakdown of the build sheet numbers (he has recieved mine) and see there are just a few with pedal dress up and the half-ring on the steering wheel, as my car has .

Thanks 440Beep. "Sold Car" means someone spec it out and ordered it?

Y codes typically have something to do with money / pricing / accounting.

In the case of a Y14 car, someone placed a deposit on it at time of order. It could have been a dealership that ordered a car to their specifications for a speculation sale or a customer at a dealership.

thanks Barry, I know you mentioned something about it after recieving the buildsheet. In looking at all the do-dads on the car I am left wondering if the dealer didn't order it as an attention-getter.

I recieved the past newsletters and COMPLETED the check I sent you. Thanks!

This Spring, I hope to track down the painted top TA I mentioned a while ago.

I laughed at the check, I do the same thing once in a while.

Best of luck on the V02 T/A, it would be cool if a fourth one popped up.

Y15 69-71 Direct Sale

Probably a silly question, but was it actually possible to go to a factory and special order a car, and then pick it up later that day/week/when it was completed? (bypassing the dealer network)

Or have I just heard "One Piece at a Time" too many times?

Well, yes. There were offices at the plants for that. You could also order at your local dealership then pick up the car at the assembly plant when it was done.

Orders are often mentioned as 'special' when they were just orders though.

A special order would be a car with a non-standard paint color or non-standard interior as two examples.

Regular orders would only be special to the person that ordered the car. I would guess 2-4 weeks for normal delivery from time of order from the 1970 paperwork on them that I have seen so far.
