72 Demon Guages - 03/26/11 06:13 PM

Hi, I just took ownership of a 1972 Demon 340, When it arrived I noticed the Fuel & Temp gauges don't work along with the Radio. The guy I bought it from said that they worked before he shipped it and the only thing he did was changed the battery before it left. I just got the car yesterday so I haven't had time to look it over, but thought I would ask here where to start.

Thanks

gauges might be out already due to the little voltage limiter plugged into back of instrument cluster (its directly behind those 2 gauges)

Radio..original or aftermarket? If original the speaker is either rotten or it's baked. it has a red wire/orange wire pigtail that plugs into the rest of the dash wiring, and a lime green/black wire that runs to speaker, check those connections, and the ground strap on the radio.

When I got my duster I though the radio didn't work, i didn't even hear a "tink" when i turned it on. Well, speaker was rotten.

Ok, thanks, if it is the voltage Regulator is it replaceable? Do I have to replace the Gauge cluster? Hoping it was a fuse or something simple.

Thanks for the help.

the Voltage limiter is replaceable, they tend to run around $35, i found a more modern replacement on ebay for $25.

typically you have to unscrew the cluster and pull it out enough to remove limiter and put new one in.

Key buzzer is usually a little yellow rectangle box (fits in your palm) and it's usually mounted above the drivers side kick panel into the body with a wide wiring connector plugged into it. might be missing or you have a bad connection.
