just installed my new engine and transmission. now the problems. in netural it will rev, but if i rev it up to like 2000 it will lurch forward, and also in reverse sometimes the car will stop,(almost like its put into park. im using a b&m quicksilver shifter that work flawlessly with my old setup. if i shift manually 1st gear works, second revs to 3000 and tries to accelerate, and in drive it seems to go 1st then seems to skip 2nd and hits 3rd.
was told the transmission worked fine(but we all know how that goes)
havent changed the filter could that effect it?
any suggestions?

Sounds like the shifter is out-of adjustment

disconnected the linkage and put it in neutral by hand. does the same thing.

Do you have solid valve-body shift-lever detent ?

With the shift cable off .... can you feel the shift lever solidly going into "gear" ?

yes i can. could this be a od tranny and not like the 3 speed shifter?

It could be a LU converter but not a OD. I would say pull the pan and check for junk in the pan and then see if the valve body is bolted-up tight to the case.

I think you have two separate problems, the creeping forward in Neutral and lockup in Reverse is caused by a rear clutch that's too tight or sticking.
The other problem is in the kickdown band or servo, try a simple adjustment.
