4 speed conversion help - 03/23/11 04:07 AM

Changing 65 B-Body from auto to 4-speed. This is a console car. Have cut the floor for the new floor hump, but under the floor is a structural piece that follows the same line as the floor hump. This structural beam crosses under where the new 4-speed hump will go. Does this beam also need to be removed so the 4-speed tranny and shifter will fit? The structural piece I'm talking about is directly above where the transmission crossmember bolts (so it forms a oval and the transmission would sit in between the two pieces. The question - does the part of this "beam" that was directly under the floor have to be removed?

No leave the upper crossmember alone, just clean it up of excess metal left there from the floor you removed, you can clean up any sharp edges also. in your application, your shifter and rods "SHOULD" be in front of this crossmember, clearing it by "that much" .....unless your swaping in something other than a 64-9 4spd

Thank you - After setting the tail shaft of the A-833 on the new crossmember and transmission mount, I can see that the shifter is positioned ahead of the cross member that I was talking about. Thanks for your response.
