Wiring harness for 1973 Roadrunner - 03/22/11 05:00 PM

I need to replace a melted dash harness in a 1973 Roadrunner. I have done many complete cars, but that is usually an aftermarket harness. This would be a correct replacement harness. Have any of you guys done one of these cars before? Where did you get the harness? Did you pull the whole dash? How bad was the job? Thanks for any input.

i've done a few, but not in a 73 charger...If you can get a Harness from YearOne (manufactured by M&H @ http://www.wiringharness.com/ ) It would be foolish to attempt the install w/o removing the dash.

I would suggest treating the dash as an entire unit, do all the work on the bench, then re-install it as a single unit

I don't have a lot of time with these models, but I just redid the dash in my 73 Satellite (RR clone) and having it out on a bench was pretty easy. I can't imagine trying to do it in the car.

Good luck. My harness was in great condition and thank god because those replacement ones are quite pricey.

No question, pull the dash out as a unit, relatively easy task (there is a posting here in the tech achieves with detailed instructions for the 71-74’ b-body). I have built a couple rallye dash harnesses using both original harnesses and parts from several collected used original dash harnesses, rallye and standard dash. Spent nowhere near what the current pricing is for a repo dash harnesses. There were several minor variations from year to year on that dash.

My harness was toast on my 73 satellite, but i replaced it with a Painless system and did remove the standard dash and put in a rally one, but i didn't remove their entire dash section, just takes alot of time with all the wires, good luck and have fun
