Suddenly no heater blower/turn signals. Related? UPDATE - 03/04/11 05:44 AM

This is on my dart...
I'm gonna really look into it tomorrow but till then any ideas?

Fuses are fine.... Didn't know if these two items are typically tied together electrically.

Thanks as always....

Blower and TS are different circuits.Check that the blower has power to it.Do the TS light or just not flash?Might be the flasher.Rocky

anything else not working?

technically they all tie into the ignition too.

I had that happen, but didn't kill the car because of how I have the electrical wired, I lost all accessories. Anything that required the key on to get power. Which both of those are.

Not lights at all. I'll check for juice at the blower motor first and go from there.

I'm thinkin this is all just coincidence but wanted to ask to see if I was overlooking something. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll post my findings when I tear into it.

Separate circuits, but fed by the ignition switch.
Wiggle the snot out of the key cylinder in the ignition switch,or look for a burnt wire from the switch.

Will do! Thanks

Wiggle or unplug & reconnect the bulk head harnesses at the firwall. I had stuff like this happen before & this was the cause. You may have to clean connectors too.

Disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Your car needs to be rebooted

The flasher is easy to check also. One side should have power with key on.Rocky

Shouldn't both sides have power with the key on ? Its only when there's a load on the circuit that the bi-metal heats up and opens the circuit hence a flashing sequence .

Yes there should be power on both sides. It's a normally closed switch.

the same thing happened to me about a month ago on my 74 dart. look under the dash above the steering column and see if the main connector to the ignition switch has come loose.

Re: Suddenly no heater blower/turn signals. Related? - 03/05/11 10:21 AM

After all the wigglin of wires I did today and no leads yet makes me think about the ignition switch someone mentioned. I dug around in the column this mornin but nothing was obvious. No burn marks.

The turn signal cam/switch has no juice but the hazard switch still works, as do the lights

This is currently serving as my DD so I couldnt tear into it too bad this morning but come Monday I can totally disable it with confidence

Thanks for all the help fellas, it means a lot!

The TS flasher and 4 way are 2 seperate ones.If the ts flasher is bad the swiych wont have power even though the 4 ways work.Rocky

Re: Suddenly no heater blower/turn signals. Related? UPDATE - 03/14/11 03:07 PM

Something in my fuse block went and killed the juice to my heater motor....so that's kinda fixed.

But the turn signals are still an issue. I traced the black wire from the flasher relay thru the fire wall, ohm'd it out so I know it's not in the bulkhead connection. It hooks to the neutral safety/reverse light switch. I have no reverse lights along w/no turn signals.

These wires also connect to the starter relay. I have no juice at this terminal with the key on, is this normal? Does the car need to be running to have juice there?

Hope this all makes sense, I'm just wondering if my starter relay is bad. Thanks!

Re: Suddenly no heater blower/turn signals. Related? UPDATE - 03/14/11 03:13 PM

Also I have confirmed the ignition switch is working properly. I'm getting juice to the hazard half of the switch in the column but not juice present at the turn signal cam. The flasher relay is fine, I have no juice to either wire for the relay.

Re: Suddenly no heater blower/turn signals. Related? UPDATE - 03/14/11 05:05 PM

As said before you have two flashers one for turn and one for emergencies. Turn signals have nothing to do with neutral switch or back up lights. Completely different circuits. The wire from the neutral switch to the starter relay is a ground for the starter relay then the shifter is in park or neutral. The turn signals get their power from the ignition switch not the starter relay.

Sometimes the harness that feeds through the steering column gets freyed and shorts out. I would ohm both ends of the harness starting with the red wire.
just my

If that doesn't work do what SCATPACTOM says
"Disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Your car needs to be rebooted"

..or checked for a "virus"
