Audio Question. What are the best aftermarket speakers - 02/28/11 07:42 PM

Looking for some input from the Audio experts.
Building a nice driver and need a great audio system.
What the best 6 X 9 speakers. Any thoughts on a decent amp as well.
This is not my expertise as you can see by my lack of general info.

Thank you for any help.

It is going to be a matter of personal preference and what sounds good for the type of music you listen to. Best thing to do is go to a couple different car audio stores..(not best buy) and listen to the different speakers with your type of music. I personally like MB Quart, Rockford Fosgate, and JL Audio for the types of music I listen to. For amps, you can never go wrong with PPI, ADS amps though you will pay for them, if you are on more of a reasonable budget give punch amps by rockford fosgate a try.

If you are talking about hi power systems and amps, make sure your old electrical system and alternator are up to handling the load (assuming you are talking musclecar era). If you burn something up, you'll be unhappy.

i've had success with keeping my systems a little on the small side as to not burn up the electrical. Currently has a sony head unit (52x4), 2 5.25 speakers up front (200 watts peak each), 2 6x9 jvcs in the back and a knockoff brand 300 watt amp from pepboys and 10" pioneer (700 watt peak) sub in the trunk of my wife's 73 charger. It doesn't bounce the stock alternator around and sounds great and I spent less than $250 to do the whole thing.

I'm trying something similar in my RR, looking at 5" infiniti up front, and RF 6x9's in the back with a 250 watt amp and 8" tube sub. SHould be enough for some thump but not enough to mess up the electrical.

My old bee had 2 15" subs and a 1500 watt amp...it took forever to get the electrical to work correctly..new alternator, voltage regulator, etc

Great info. Thanks for the input.

It is going in a 70 cuda that I am finishing up.
So, not looking to go wild, just a clean, crisp sound I can hear over the drone of the AAR exhaust that will be exiting from the sides.

Thanks Again.

If you're running a stock deck/ stereo than you better find out if you have the same ohms in the deck and speakers. OE radios have I believe 4 ohms and new speakers have 8 ohms, which will burn up things eventually. This is what was explained to me about the same problem.
