Conversion U joint from 7290 to 1410? - 02/18/11 02:03 PM

Is there a conversion U joint from 7290 to 1410?

I added a Dana 70 to the rear of the Ramcharger and need a u-joint to complete.

Rear is from a 95 V10, was also under one of my 93 CTD trucks for a while.

I just got done converting the driveshaft from the 1/2 ton u-joint to the Dana 60 last year, never got to drive it, and now I made changes again.

Hopefully the shop can remove the brand new u-joint with no damage so I can save, or sell/trade it.

I just hope there is such a conversion joint, I dont want to have to have a new end welded on.

That U-joint doesn't exist.

I would swap the pinion yoke from the Dana 60.

Thats the same thing they told me at the driveshaft shop.

And the tube diameter wasn't able to support changing to the 1410...

So I had a new driveshaft made. It was a better, quicker, and faster way to go.

May be more costly, but now I have a new driveshaft, with new splines and all.

I should be able to sell my other driveshaft fairly easy, there are plenty of people out there doing rear Dana 60 swaps on Ramchargers. Since mine is already shortened, and has new joints and good splines it will be a simple swap for the next guy.

And here I am, bumping up an OLD thread.... I'm almost done installing a set of D60/D70 axles from a 1992 W250 Cummins truck into a 74 Ramcharger and am looking for a 7290 to 1410 conversion U Joint myself.... I found this thread via google search and the hunt is on. I'd have my driveshaft modified, but there is nowhere in the Corpus Christi area I know of.

Online search found these. Might be more if you searched. https://www.yellowpages.com/corpus-christi-tx/driveshaft-repair

I talked to the manager of the local parts store who's a hot rod guy himself and found a fleet service shop.

I took the driveshaft there and asked to have a 1410 yoke welded onto the driveshaft.....well that wasn't possible either since a 1410 requires a 3.5" tube diameter; so they're building me a new shaft from the slipjoint back......I didn't even bother ask what it's gonna cost, I just wanna get back to driving the truck.

You could install a 7290 Dana 60/70 pinion yoke. See below:
