Edelbrock LD4B Experts - 02/01/11 02:08 AM

Was at the WPC swap meet yesterday. Saw a guy with an Edelbrock LD4B intake manifold in a box under his table. I asked him if it was for sale. He replied with a "no". Told me it was an extremely rare LD4B that was specific to the W2 heads. I replied with a "huh?". As far as I know the Edelbrock LD4B was/is a dual plane manifold specific to the small port 318 heads. Anyone know anything about the W2 head claim?

I think he was blowing smoke or didn't know what he is talking about.

If anything were to be made compatible with W2 heads, it would have been based on the LD340.

They are for 273/318 ports and I think the dual plane configuration the opposite from the LD340 but run just as good,I have one too.

I run one on the 360 headed 318 in my 85 truck

yes the runner are reversed

they are the small port/runners..duel plane

works really well, just under a LD340 with the 340/360 size ports and runners

maybe a LD4B/LD340 hogged out to w2 port size

is old skool and not made any more but rare?? not IMHO

on my truck it was a night and day differance in HP/throttle response/rpms/torque even with a mix matched set of ports over the performer intake I had

LD340 is just under the #s of an airgap rpm intake and not as tall either

some people just say stupid stuff to get a reaction from people asking ?s about something

Never heard of such an item directly from Edelbrock ever.

Probably something someone ported out and then redrilled the intake boltholes to W2 configuration on their own.

To fully utilize the W2 ports, a race single-plane and race headers would be worth the upgrade.

On a different note, I wish I would have picked up those 2 LD4B's I passed on, FOR $35, at two different swapmeets years ago.

I *think* there was a dual plane offered for W2's, not sure if it was from edelbrock or Direct Connection..

I don't doubt that. IIRC there was a dual-plane offered by someone, I just don't recall it being based off of a LD4B. Seems like it was a MP piece...........or Holley?

I saw the LD4B stamped on the top of the manifold as it was sitting in the bottom of a box, which is why I asked him about it. His story didn't add up because I figured the W2 heads would probably need much larger ports and a single plane design. He seemed pretty unsure about it.
Anyway, the same guy also had a used Edelbrock Performer 2176 my buddy picked up for $75. Kind of funny, no more than 10' away Mancini was selling new 2176 Performers for $215.
