73 Bucket seats in a 68 B-Body, seat track question

73 Bucket seats in a 68 B-Body, seat track question - 01/19/11 10:46 PM

I have seats from a newer Road Runner in my 68 Coronet R/T (I liked the high back ones better, and the originals are long gone). The mounting tracks I have on them are not correct so the one seat sits crooked. I am wondering what tracks would mount them correctly, if any? If I use stock ones from a 68-69 B-body, will they mount correctly to the newer seats? Before I spend a fair amount of cash buying a set of tracks, I want to have a good idea if they will work or not. Thanks in advance.

The 70 B body will be close.

I would think the 70 Seat tracks would fix this , the 70 and the 68 share the same floorpan and the bottom of his newer seat should be the same as a 70 seat bottom in basic shape and mounting .

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately that really shrinks my selection of parts, but at least I know what I am looking for. If I am reading correctly...basically 68-70 have the same floor pan shapes/contours, and the 70-74? (guessing by body style) shared the seats, so the 70 should crossover between the 2.

That's basically it. That how things get narrow.

Ok, I guess I'll take the plunge and cough up the $350 for the repop tracks. Does anyone have an opinion either way on the BEA/PG reproduction parts?

Got them installed, they fit pretty well. Couple of issues, one related to my car and one to the repop mounts I bought.

I wonder if the steering column or something is a different length on the 68 vs the 70 B-bodies. I am not a tall man, 5'9", but in the factory holes (I used 2 from the original bench seat, and 2 new ones that I drilled and reinforced) I was almost up against the steering wheel and knees bent with the seat slid all the way back. I welded the other holes shut and moved the seats back the 2.5" I coule without the rear of the tracks getting into the slope of the rear footwell.

The mounts look like nice pieces, they fit and slide well. The factory paint is crappy, I could scrape it off with my fingernail. Also, the wires the connect the 2 seat tracks are about 1.5" too long so I had to cut and re-bend the to make them work.

Other than that, they are in and if you need a set they are probably worth the $325 I paid for the pair.
