5.7 tech help... error code P0403 - 09/06/08 05:59 PM

OK I know its the EGR circuit.

I popped the EGR valve off and it looks pretty clean. No major build ups, but I cleaned it anyways. No chunks came out and all seemed good. Blew air through it and again everything was clean. Pulled the air tube off and cleaned that as well, no blockage or anything else.

Disconnected battery and reinstalled, check engine light still on. Still getting same code p0403

Everything I know says the EGR valve itself rarely goes out. Usually just a carbon build up, but doesnt seem to be the case here.

Any help, info...... 2005 dodge ram 1500 5.7

Mopar sells 1079 5.7l EGR valves a week...
I believe the techs usually say position sensor is bad not the actual valve. At 66 dollars list
for 53032509am go get 1. Don't forget little pipe gasket 5277928 for like 2.50.

I did a quick search for any TSB's or flashes but didn't find any. P0403 is a solenoid circuit code not a sensor code. The diag for the code bassicaly has you check the circuit's beween the valve and the PCM. If the circuits are good then it's likely a problem with the valve or it could be the drivers in the PCM. This is where the DRB or the starscan would come in handy because you could actuate the valve with the scanner and see if the valve opens. You best bet is to disconect the connector at the valve, and the PCM and measure the db/vt wire which is the solenoid controll wire for any shots to ground or voltage or opens with a DVOM and measure the resistance of the ground circuit (the bk/wt wire) to a good ground ( should be very little resistance) If the circuit's are good then replace the valve. Like I say, it could be the PCM but it's probably the valve.

Well at that price I will just pick one up. Its like a 15 minute job to change, will give it a shot then. If light still comes on, I will have to take it in and get it scanned I guess. But for 60 bucks and an hour of my time its worth a shot.

I had no idea what the price was, I tried getting one already today but service at local dealership is closed already

I just finish dealing with the same thing on my 05/ram 1500/5.7 I just bought a new one after hearing everyone elses story and did like most; replace it since its cheap and an easy install; then clean the old one and save until you need another. the code will go away once the new one is installed after a few cycles or just reset the computer.
